Higher Resolution

Welcome to 2011!

I have a nice pile of resolutions for the New Year and, different than usual, they are not about being a better teacher and musician.

All of them are about being more diligent in promoting my work as a musician and teacher.

I was talking to a friend/mentor recently and he encouraged me to really learn what diligence is and what effect it will have on my life.

For the longest time, I have confused ‘Diligence’ with ‘Persistence’.

I have persisted in doing things that do not lead me to the specific goals I have set for myself, and I have not been diligent in focusing on the real goals and diligently altering poor paths to reach them.

Ironically, I have failed to apply many of the same ideas to my professional life that I suggest to all of my students in their music interest.

Specifically: If it is not giving you the result you want, it is wrong and you should do something different.

So here’s to the relentless pursuit of being as ‘Everywhere’ as a musician and music teacher.
